Not to complain, but life’s been pouring lemons. So, we opted not to sweat the small stuff and have made loads of lemonade, but with a hearty twist of Vicodin. To be honest, it isn’t working all that well — but one presses forward. One must. And, here is the beginning stages of our living room in Oakland. I think it is going to look pretty cool once we are able to get it all together. This move really kicked our ass. Poor B has worked his off and I’ve done as much as I can to help, but it has sucked. I don’t feel like going into details but this move experience has beaten all of my previous ones combined —- and I’ve moved a lot! This was worse than any I’ve experienced. In addition to the move itself, too much is going on in our lives to have kept up with what needed to be done prior to our move in date. And, nothing makes a bumpy move go better than trying to get through it with several rounds of migraine.

Anyway, at some point you just have to laugh and try to get a grip. I’m still trying to get a grip. B is still constructing things that will act as “pseduo” walls.

We have an awesome platform which is serving as a bedroom of sorts. B built this thing in no time! B can do anything! The problem is that B has not been able to construct the stairs. Not enough time and we ran out of lumber. This means that we have to remember to carefully step down on the cabinet now serving as stairs or we will break our heads open. However, this can make a 2am run to the bathroom quite an adventure! I’ve been unpacking and sorting through all our stuff as I can. Am still on physical restriction so there is only so much I can seem to do in a given day. I have far too many clothes, bags and media. B has far too much — but the stuff he has is of a much more practical.

Thanks to B, I think the space is starting to take form/shape. But, we have a long way to go! …and, right now we only have one shade for all twelve of the windows. I don’t know. I kind of figure securing those eleven shades might be the most important next step. I’m not really up for putting on anymore shows for the public until I get this fat ass in shape! …However, then, I might be able to shake it and make some spare change. No. Wait. We’re not in GayTown anymore. …We’re in O-Town. …I’ll have to work on changing O Town’s rep once I get my life back to normal! This is part of the kitchen as of now. We will be installing an island thing soon, but most importantly I wish I had the energy/ability to paint that wall. I have the paint. This is so white it hurts my feelings!

A very sweet, cool and thoughtful pal sent us a housewarming gift. Not just any little gift — this friend sent us an HD DVD player with some kick-ass HD DVD’s!
…so, of course, our first night here — B sat up his giant plasma screen and we watched Hugh Jackman in full-on HD DVD-vision! (I could only see part of him due to the migraine, but I think I saw a very good bit of him — but then aren’t all the bits of Mr. Jackman good ones?!?!!?) I think it is funny that we sat up a TV before we had set up any sort of bed or access to food. It is all about priorities. And, that moment saved the dismal day. Best housewarming gift I’ve ever seen!

…and, on that note, I need to pull myself up and try to figure out where the can opener is so I can make some soup in the microwave.

Kisses from O-Town……I so wish this were my boom box. I think Goldfrapp would sound so totally awesome on it! …and the sunlight would simply glisten off the rhinestones in such a glam way. Or, Chromeo would sound most fit on it I should think.

I hope all the above makes sense! …I took these pictures this morning and wrote this very fast!

hey- ive visited your digs here before, but im not sure if ive commented. anyway, hi- and i can i just say that i cant get over the hello kitty toaster?! holy hell, i love it. that being said, i quite like all the rest of the pictures too. the light in that first picture, in what looks like a living room of sorts?, is really great. i also really like the floors there. and mr. jackman, yup.
but seriously, the toaster really did it for me. thank you for that sneak peak!

  2. Dessie replied:

The place looks totally awesome! And remember, these things are fleeting! You’ll be settled into your space in no time xx

  3. Old Cheeser replied:

Hey!! The place looks really great!! The living area and the kitchen in particular! Sure you haven’t got everything finished yet but give it time – moving in and getting settled is a slow business. And I think you’re doing well considering your migraines and the fact you’ve felt under the weather – sorry to hear that. At least now you’re actually in your new groovy pad and you have lots of time to get it ship shape (okay some blinds on the window might be a priority – I imagine sleeping would be kind of hard with the sunlight coming in and erm, your neighbours might be able to see, erm, other things…)

Makes me think what I’m going to have to go through soon when I move – yikes!!

  4. diamondfistwerny replied:

You have too many stressors all at once!!!! But the place is shaping up nice. Looks like a beautiful flat!

  5. johnNokc replied:

Matty dear, the ground moves out there. I mean, it really moves. That KitchenAid mixer and the microwave will be like cannon shells if a 5.0 or better pays a visit. But other than that, I’m so jealous. Happy days!

  6. Pants replied:

Holy crap, I am in LOVE with the O Town ghetto blaster! It’s awesome!

I’m sorry to hear that moving has been so rough…it’s the worst! I hate moving as much as I love your Hello Kitty toaster! (That’s a lot!) If I hadn’t relocated to Mormon-hell-on-earth I would come and help you paint that kitchen, which is so bright-white that I can’t imagine that would be any sort of help for a migraine. xoxo

  7. matty03 replied:

Brookem! Thank you! Yes, I prize my Hello Kitty toaster!!! …It sears the image of Hello Kitty into my toast! Yay! I will be visiting your online home soon!!! Things are just so crazy right now! I wonder if Hugh enjoys Hello Kitty toast. Hmmmmm…

Dessie! Thanks — am glad everyone thinks it looks cool. I’m not so sure at this point. But, as you write — all of this IS fleeting. We’ll get the place together, I’ll be getting better and life will return to its magical pace at any moment! I AM confident.

  8. matty03 replied:

Old Cheeser — Yeah, moving just sucks anyway and we’ve had some extra challenges. Things haven’t been all that rosy for B either! But, it is going to come together — actually, I guess it is coming together. Blinds/shades! Yes! You know, our friends who ride BART (commuter rail) in from the East Bay can actually look into our unit. They give us reports on what they see. Crazy!

  9. matty03 replied:

Mr. Diamond! I know! Far too many! But, it was take it now or lose it. So, we took it. It is done, so now we work thru it. It will be fine. I just know it! lol!

John! I know! …we are ON the fault in Oakland!! …I am told that one could see the highway collapse from our windows back in ’89. …those highways were replaced, but the new ones are very close to us. I just opt not to think about it. Why worry about something with which I have no control. This is an old factory building that has stood thru many earthquakes I think we’re fine.

…and, I was wondering what those things were in the kitchen. I just hoisted them on top of the cabinets. We don’t use them. Well, wait. I think Ing and B made something in one of them last Christmas. …but they are firearms, eh? …Go figure.

…You know I’m an anti-violent person. Those items might need to be removed immediately!

  10. matty03 replied:

Pants! I know! Don’t you wish it were yours!?!?!? I found it pictured when I did a google search for “Oakland, CA” is so totally Fab Five Freddy! I need it! But, I’ve no cassettes.

…I love Hello Kitty. You know, I even have the rare and illegal Hello Kitty vibrator! I do! I do! It is sealed in it’s box. …well, that’s a lie. I did open it. NOT for use, but just to look at it in wonderment. However, we use our Hello Kitty toaster! It is so cool! …and quite cute!

  11. Kris replied:

You guys have just barely moved in! I do think it looks great Matt. And the sun just shining through in your living room. Mann, I am soo gonna have to visit now.

Oooo good choice with the furnitures 😉 I can tell those are Ikea furnitures.. hehe Lack shelving unit in black brown.. or was it brown black!? And we have the exact same paper lamp lol

Take your time Matt, it’s going to be all right… Smile.. Hugs from DC to O-town.

  12. matty03 replied:

Kris! Thanks! And, yes! You must visit! Can’t miss you the next time ’round! …And, yes, we have officially entered the IKEA Kulture. …The “Billy” black/brown is serving B’s master-scheme to create sort of walls in this very open industrial space. It is working and will work. It’s just getting there.

    …I’ve no patience of late.

    But, it will get better.

  13. ing replied:

Aww, it already looks super great! But the kitchen needs some paint.

I, ing, am really great with a paintbrush, you know. . .

  14. matty03 replied:

Ing – Thank you!!!! …I really need the help! …I had to “strategize” with B — and, am sending you an email! I’ve got the paint brush, you got the talent, I’ll hold the ladder!

  15. hot-lunch replied:

can’t wait to see it when it’s all done up and glittery!! it looks fabulous already! congrats on making it through the move. I hate moving, and have only done it twice.

I’ll make a wish for you today for all your migraines to vanish… poof….

and i am so sending you a housewarming gift!!!

  16. matty03 replied:

Hot Lunch! You’re so sweet! …And, if your magic spell should work — well, that would be the best possible gift! lol! …No need to send me anything! Just keep those positive vibes flowing!!! B says we will be pretty much done by the close of this weekend. I don’t see how, but he knows what he’s doing. I just follow!

  17. マンコの病的探検記 replied:

You’re place looks lovely. It’s so not fair though as my living room is about as big as your coffee table!

  18. matty03 replied:

Hi! Thank you! Yes, it is a very big space. I once lived in a place that was almost the same size as yours! It was back in Boston in the basement of an old brownstone. If I lived alone I would opt for a small studio. I don’t like big spaces. …this one is starting to take shape, but it does feel a bit big to me. At least it is open.

  19. Pants replied:

I went to the Sanrio store last Wednesday…Double Stamp day! WOOT!

  20. matty03 replied:

Pants! Sanrio so rocks! Double Stamp day!!!!!

  21. brookem replied:

no it DOESN’T sear the image of hello kitty on your toast! say it isn’t so!

  22. matty03 replied:

Brookem! I could lie to you and say it isn’t so — but, yes, Sanrio Hello Kitty Toaster actually sears the Hello Kitty image into each and every piece of toast! …at first it is a bit disarming, but in the end you come to love seeing Hello Kitty looking up at you as you spread your applebutter!

  23. Lubin Odana replied:

You have an amazing place. ENVY!!!!

  24. matty03 replied:

Lubin – Thanks! We still have a way to go, but it is looking pretty good. If only it were actually in SF.

  25. Tim replied:

I didn’t spot that you had the Kitty-chan toaster at first – how cool! I’ve always wanted one of those. How gay is that?! I’m 30 for fucks sake … Oh well.

  26. matty03 replied:

Tim! It is quite gay, but nothing wrong with that! I think you need one!!!!
