B & I were enjoying a delicious Christmas Eve brunch. We were discussing a few last minute shopping plans for the day and the evening’s festivities which included dinner with friends, a late night performance by the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus at the historic Castro Theatre and Christmas with fab and beautiful Ing! We were filled with excitement and it was, at one point, rather romantic. It was crowded. There were two older gentlemen sitting next to us.

B had to excuse himself for a minute. It was at this point that I heard the following exchange between our table mates. Please note that the following exchange was performed at a rather loud range. I was not trying to listen in — it was unavoidable to not hear it. And, this is what I heard:

“All I am saying is that I wish you could have just put the sling up before we got started last night!”

“Well, I am sorry! I guess I thought the chains were enough!”

…and, I thought, “Only in the Castro of San Francisco would hear this exchange over waffles, syrup and mimosas. Gotta love and embrace it!

Happy Holidays! …And, remember — sometimes chains are not enough when you want to fist the very best. Uh, I mean, “give” the very best! Toodles from GayTown!

    Crabcake! Hi! Happy Christmas, Gorgeous!!!

Ozzysboy! I know! You never know what you might hear when having brunch in The Castro on Xmas Eve!!!

    Hot Lunch! Happy Christmas!!!

Matt! LOL! I think the sling was missing for these two the night before xmas eve brunch. …and they were not having a nice mid-morning! I don’t want to name the place, but it is in the Castro! …I don’t think you go there! But, email me and I will tell ya!
    Happy Christmas!!

  7. Matt replied:

Well let me take a guess….places I normally go in the Castro:

    Squat and Gobble
Baghdad’s Cafe (I do go there sometimes for a burger)
That place across the street from the Castro Theater (see…I don’t even know the name of it…LOL)

  8. matty replied:

Matt — Just sent you an email to tell you where. They are a bit expensive but make exceptional french toast!!!…and I really love their staff!

  9. ing replied:

What’s a sling? Did one of them have broken arm? Poor thing! Were the chains for their tires? Because I don’t think it snows here. I’m confused, Matty!

  10. Sorted Lives replied:

That was hysterical. Who does that??

    Thanks for my morning laugh.

  11. matty replied:

Sorted Lives! You’re more than welcome! LOL! I keep thinking I am jaded but then every once in a while something happens that takes me by surprise and gives me a big laugh. This was one of those moments!

Ing — Honey, I was confused as well. Best not to worry about it. If that snow comes to San Francisco just suck it up and take public transit to avoid those chains!

  12. Me replied:

Yep, you’re right, I need to move. Merry Christmas sweety!

  13. matty replied:

Lovely Meredith! No! The rock sounds awesome! But, if you’re of a mind to do so — then move! Come to California!! It is fun! Tho, I really do need to find a job now!!

  14. Kalvin replied:

I thought people who had slings always left them up. Shows you what I know…

  15. matty replied:

Kalvin — Yeah, I know. However, I guess that even the most accomplished fisters need to put away the sling when the parentals come by. I guess. Of course, this is San Francisco. Still, I was a bit surprised at the candor of the argument over brunch. Most amusing! LOL!
