TRAGEDY AT THE GALAZY, NOW CLOSED

I know it wasn’t a nice cinema anymore. It was falling apart and smelled like an old shoe, but I always found it comfortable and they just don’t make screens that big anymore. So, I was bummed to see it had been closed down. I soon became more bummed.

As I stood looking at the cinema which must have seemed so sleek and cool when it first opened — all that glass! Anyway, as I stood on the corner of Sutter and Van Ness two skater bois began taunting a guy who was struggling near what used to be the box office of the theatre. I turned off my iPod to hear what the rude boys were calling to the shaking man. They were yelling out all sorts of ugly names and things. He seemed to engrossed in something to be bothered. The kids gave up but I kept watching the guy who could not have been much older than me — and, maybe younger. He was trying to light his crack pipe, but the wind and his shaking hands were preventing him from success. Finally, it lit and I could see him inhaling deeply. His hands stopped shaking and he began calling out as if answering the two skater boys. …but they were now blocks ahead. I had just been standing there staring at this mess. He called out, “What the fuck are you looking at?”

I turned on my iPod and walked toward Market feeling sad for the guy.

Kind of funny, when I did a quick search just now for “crack pipe” to find an image —- all these tiny pictures of pipes came up, but in the middle of all of them was a scary picture of Courtney Love. …Nothing says “crack pipe” like a bad picture of Ms. Love, I guess.

Oy, she looks distraut! Maybe it’s the microphone?

Yeah, I know. Keep that microphone away from me! The poor thing. …but what really made me laugh is she showed up as an “image” when I typed in “crack pipe”!

You know, I’ve recently been listening repeatedly to the last Hole album, the Billy Corgan-produced ‘Celebrity Skin’. It’s not really Hole so much as an alter ego project for Corgan, but some of those tracks are catchy… addictive, you might say…

Gator — Yeah, I really like that CD, actually. Love the song “Malibu” but I do think it is all Corgan’s work. I think he is going to “produce” her again soon. Hmmmm… They were hating each other for a while. Poor Courtney.

Coincidently, there was an item in the NY Post (which is trash) today stating that Courtney Love has assembled a group of fairly “gritty” songs reminiscent of Janis Joplin. My first thought is that after so much partying, anyone would sound like Janis, but I’ll withold judgement. For all I know, Courtney Love is a great writer of melodies with no clue how to produce. Hey, it could happen…

I read about that, too. Might be good but just somehow seems like anohter “bad sign” She makes me sad. I get the feeling that she is someone so damaged she can’t pull herself out of self-destruction. I hope that is a misconcept portrayed by media, but I rather doubt it. It seems to me that if she could get it together she would be one hell of a great comic actress. That’s where her focus of talent would be better spent. …i think.

Did you read the recent interview with her daughter? She seemed pretty together but kind of “away” from her mother — which is probably a good thing, but sad too.
